Why Child Safety Matters?

Did you know that it can take just 15 seconds for a toddler to lose consciousness if a cord is caught around their neck? According to the U.S. CPSC, an average of 8 children under 8 die each year from window cord strangulation. Children are naturally curious, and even a small window treatment can become a potential risk without proper safety features. At Persilux, we believe every detail matters when it comes to protecting your little ones. Here’s what we guard against:

1.Cord Strangulation: Loose cords pose a serious risk to curious children

2.Toxic Materials: Low-quality fabrics may contain harmful chemicals.

3.Choking Hazards: Small parts can easily become dangerous toys.

That’s why we design with safety first, so you can enjoy peace of mind without compromising on style.

4 Steps to Childproof Your Blinds/Shades

1.Choose Cordless Designs

Opt for cordless blinds or motorized blinds/shades. Modern cordless systems use push-button or remote controls to eliminate dangling ropes. CPSC mandates that all post-2018 U.S. window coverings meet cordless safety standards.

2.Anchor Heavy Blinds/Shades & Hardware

Curtain rods and blackout drapes can weigh over 20 lbs. Secure them with wall anchors (not just screws) to prevent tipping. Avoid placing cribs or playpens near windows where kids might tug fabrics.

3.Shorten or Secure Existing Cords

If replacing corded blinds/shades isn’t possible:

Use cord cleats to wrap excess cords 5+ feet high (out of reach).

Install tension devices to keep cords taut and minimize loops.

4.Prioritize Non-Toxic Materials

Children touch everything. Ensure blinds/shades are OEKO-TEX® certified (free from lead, phthalates, and formaldehyde). Flame-retardant coatings should meet CAL 117 safety standards without harmful chemicals.

Maintenance Guidelines

Your vigilance is key to maintaining a child-safe home. Here are some additional tips to consider:

Professional Setup: Consider having your window treatments installed by a professional to ensure they are mounted correctly and safely.

Establish Clear Zones: Keep the area around your window treatments clear. Secure any cords or accessories and educate family members on proper usage.

Routine inspection: Regularly check fittings and mechanisms for any signs of wear or damage. If anything seems amiss, contact our support team immediately.
